The Bacon Donut: A History and Review
By Ky Series
I know what you're thinking. When I first heard talk of the bacon donut, I was skeptical too. It's a donut and... bacon? Together? The combination itself seems almost too radical to work, a strange sweet and salty union of two breakfast favorites - how would it taste?
Heavenly. Skeptics and traditionalists alike, heed my words: the bacon donut works, and it works beautifully. The union of maple flavored donut and salty pork cutlery was meant to be. And believe me, those who have tried it agree. From its humble beginnings in middle America, the bacon donut (or doughnut if you prefer) has received nothing but positive reviews from customers and has become a highly demanded fan favorite. Bakeries nationwide now serve this unorthodox breakfast treat, with similarly positive reviews from ravenous patrons readily returning for seconds.
Bacon is Born
The first bacon donut was created at the Swirls Bakery in Omaha, Nebraska. The fusion of bacon and donut, a breakfast plate rolled into one item, quickly became such a hit that Swirls Bakery owner Dawn Brown says she now prepares 5 pounds of bacon daily for the special dish that Swirls uniquely calls "the Elvis".
Since its birth at Swirls, the bacon donut has spread to bakeries around the country, from Nord's Bakery in Louisville, Kentucky to The Nickel Diner in Los Angeles, California. The treat has become so popular, that it has even earned its own Facebook page: The Bacon Donut - Fan Page.
What's a Bacon Donut taste like?
The bacon donut is a unique item, with an equally unique taste. Descriptions from consumers range from sweet and "mapley", to salty and smokey. Simply said, a bacon donut tastes good. In fact, I have not once encountered a negative review of this delicious breakfast treat. I myself have never tasted a bacon donut that dipped below the level of "heavenly" - let alone good.
For all those curious, I can only say that the bacon donut is a treat you must try for yourself. Food connoissuers and breakfast eaters alike will almost surely fall in love with this sweet, mapley, salty, smokey, heavenly baked good.

So long as you don't put the bacon on the chocolate donut, I'm game. Salty and sweet does taste yummy so I have no doubt it'll work.
